We're NABIP Members — And We Couldn't Be More Excited
This year, Mauldin Insurance Group became members of the National Association of Benefits and Insurance Professionals — NABIP — and it has already been one of the most meaningful decisions we've made for our clients and our business. We joined an organization of over 100,000 health insurance agents, brokers, and benefits specialists who share the same belief we do: that every American deserves access to affordable, high-quality healthcare — and that the people who guide them through it matter enormously.
We are proud to be part of that community.
Our First Capitol Conference: Surreal, Inspiring, and Unforgettable
Just a few weeks into our membership, we found ourselves in Washington, D.C. for the 2026 NABIP Capitol Conference — and we have to say, it exceeded every expectation.
On February 24th, our team had the extraordinary privilege of walking the halls of Congress and meeting directly with South Carolina's congressional delegation — Rep. Joe Wilson, Rep. Nancy Mace, Rep. Ralph Norman, Sen. Tim Scott, and Sen. Lindsey Graham. We sat across from their staff and, in some cases, the legislators themselves, and we made the case for healthcare policies that affect every client we serve back home.
For a first-year member, that kind of access and impact is remarkable. We walked away energized, humbled, and more committed than ever to the work we do.
Why We Joined NABIP
The simple answer? Because we believe healthcare is too important to stay silent about.
We spend our days helping South Carolina families, seniors, and small business owners navigate one of the most complicated systems in their lives. We know the frustration of rising premiums. We see the confusion when Medicare rules change mid-enrollment season. We hear from small business owners who want to offer their employees great benefits but can't afford traditional group plans. We sit with families who are one coverage gap away from financial hardship.
NABIP gives us a seat at the table where those problems get solved — or at least where we get to fight for the solutions. That's not something we were willing to pass up.
What We're Fighting For — On Your Behalf
At the Capitol Conference, our delegation carried a focused set of priorities into every congressional office. These aren't abstract policy debates. They're issues that hit close to home for South Carolinians.
Price Transparency. With over 1.2 million Medicare beneficiaries and 636,000 ACA Marketplace enrollees in our state, South Carolinians deserve to know what their care will cost before they receive it. We're supporting the Patients Deserve Price Tags Act, which would require real, standardized pricing from hospitals and providers — and give employers the data they need to make smarter coverage decisions.
Protecting Employer Coverage. More than 3 million South Carolinians get health insurance through their employer. The tax incentives that keep that coverage affordable are under threat. We're urging Congress to protect them — because if employer-sponsored coverage becomes too costly to offer, millions of working families pay the price.
Expanding Options for Small Businesses. The CHOICE Arrangement Act would expand Individual Coverage Health Reimbursement Arrangements (ICHRAs), giving small businesses a smarter, more flexible way to help employees afford coverage without the crushing cost of traditional group plans. For the small businesses we serve, this is a game-changer.
Medicare Stability. South Carolina has one of the highest concentrations of Medicare beneficiaries in the country. We advocated to stop last-minute rule changes that cut off seniors from independent, licensed guidance during open enrollment — and to fix an unfair penalty that punishes retirees who use COBRA before transitioning to Medicare.
What NABIP Membership Means for Our Clients
Beyond advocacy, NABIP membership means we're part of a professional community that holds itself to the highest standards of knowledge, ethics, and client service. It means access to the best training, the latest policy intelligence, and a nationwide network of professionals who are all working toward the same mission.
When the rules change — and in healthcare, they always do — we'll know about it first, and we'll be ready to help you adapt.
Most of all, it means you have advocates who are actively fighting for a better system on your behalf. Not just in our office, but in the corridors of Congress.
Just Getting Started
We joined NABIP because we believe in this organization's mission deeply. We attended our first Capitol Conference because we believe South Carolina's voice matters in Washington. And we're writing this post because we want you — our clients, our neighbors, our community — to know that we're not just insurance professionals. We're advocates.
This is only the beginning. We can't wait to see what the next chapter brings.
