Why boat, RV and motorcycle owners use an independent agent

More than one price

Rates for boats, RVs and motorcycles vary a lot from one company to the next. We quote several carriers so you see the real range.

Coverage that fits how you use it

A bass boat on Lake Murray, a camper parked at the beach and a bike ridden year-round all need different coverage. We set yours up around how you actually use it.

Agreed value when it matters

For newer boats, RVs and classic cars, we look for agreed value or total loss replacement so a claim pays what you expect, not a depreciated number.

What we can quote

  • Boats and pontoons: bass boats, ski and wake boats, center consoles, cruisers and pontoons.
  • Personal watercraft: Jet Skis, Sea-Doos and WaveRunners.
  • RVs and campers: Class A, B and C motorhomes, travel trailers, fifth wheels, toy haulers and pop-ups, including full-timers.
  • Motorcycles: cruisers, touring bikes, sport bikes, trikes and scooters.
  • Golf carts and LSVs: neighborhood carts, street-legal carts and low-speed vehicles.
  • ATVs, UTVs and dirt bikes: side-by-sides and off-road machines used on your land or the trails.
  • Classic and collector cars: agreed value coverage for cars you drive on weekends and to shows.
  • Trailers: utility, cargo, enclosed and equipment trailers.

South Carolina rules worth knowing

Boater education

Anyone born after July 1, 2007 needs an SCDNR-approved boater education course to run a boat with a 10 HP or larger motor, or any personal watercraft. Some carriers also give a discount for it.

Golf carts on public roads

A golf cart driven on public roads must be insured, permitted and registered with SCDMV. The driver must be at least 16 with a valid license. Your homeowners policy usually won't cover a cart on the street.

Motorcycle minimums

Motorcycles need the same minimum liability and uninsured motorist limits as a car, 25/50/25. Most riders carry more, along with coverage for custom parts and gear.

Lenders and marinas

If your boat or RV is financed, the lender will require full coverage. Many marinas and storage lots also ask for proof of liability insurance.

Bundle and save

Many carriers give a discount when your boat, RV or motorcycle is on the same account as your home or auto. We'll check both ways and show you the numbers.

Serving Lexington and the Midlands

We insure boats on Lake Murray, Lake Wateree, Lake Marion and Lake Greenwood, campers and RVs across the Midlands, and motorcycles and golf carts from Lexington to the coast. We're licensed statewide, so we can help anywhere in South Carolina.

Boat, RV and motorcycle questions we hear a lot

  • Is boat insurance required in South Carolina?

State law doesn't require it, but your lender will if the boat is financed, and many marinas and storage lots ask for proof of liability coverage. Even without a loan, one accident on a busy lake can turn into a large liability claim.

  • Does my homeowners policy cover my boat or golf cart?

Usually only in a limited way. Many homeowners policies cap coverage for small boats at a low dollar amount and leave out liability for larger boats, golf carts on public roads and off-road vehicles. A separate policy closes those gaps, and it often costs less than people expect.

  • What do I need to drive a golf cart on the road in South Carolina?

A golf cart driven on public roads must be insured, permitted and registered with SCDMV. The driver must be at least 16 with a valid license, and the cart has to stay within 4 miles of the address on the registration, on roads posted 35 mph or less. Local rules can add more limits, so check your town or county too.

  • Is motorcycle insurance the same as car insurance in South Carolina?

The legal minimums are the same: 25/50/25 in liability plus uninsured motorist coverage. Most riders carry more than the minimum, along with comprehensive and collision, coverage for custom parts and gear, and roadside help.

  • What is agreed value coverage?

With agreed value, you and the insurance company settle on the value up front, and that's what the policy pays for a total loss, minus your deductible. Actual cash value pays what it's worth at the time of the loss, after depreciation. Agreed value is common for newer boats and classic cars.

  • Do I need special coverage if I live in my RV full time?

Yes. Full-timer coverage adds liability and personal property protection that works more like a homeowners policy, since the RV is your home. Let us know if you live in it most of the year so we quote the right policy.
