Why Lexington business owners use an independent agent

More than one carrier

Commercial pricing and appetite vary a lot from one company to the next. We quote several so you aren't stuck with whatever one carrier will offer.

We look for the gaps

Most problems we find aren't price. They're things like no liquor liability, no hired auto coverage, or a notary bond with no E&O behind it.

A local person to call

When you need a certificate of insurance for a job or a lease, you call Ben, not an 800 number.

Coverage we write

Business Owners Policy (BOP)

Property and general liability packaged together. Usually the best value for small shops, offices and retail.

General Liability

Covers injuries and property damage you cause to others. Often required by landlords, general contractors and event venues.

Workers' Compensation

Required for most South Carolina employers with four or more employees. Covers medical bills and lost wages for on-the-job injuries.

Commercial Auto

Work trucks, vans and vehicles titled to the business. Personal auto policies often won't cover business use.

Commercial Property

Buildings, equipment, inventory and business income if you have to close after a covered loss.

Professional Liability (E&O)

For businesses that give advice or provide a service, including notary E&O.

Commercial Umbrella

Extra liability limits that sit on top of your general liability, auto and employer's liability.

Nonprofit and D&O

Liability, directors and officers, and abuse and molestation coverage for churches, clubs and nonprofits.

Liquor Liability

For package stores, restaurants and organizations that serve or sell alcohol at events.

Business insurance questions we hear a lot

What insurance does a small business need in South Carolina?

Most small businesses start with general liability or a business owners policy. If you have four or more employees, South Carolina generally requires workers' compensation. If the business owns vehicles, you'll need commercial auto. Your lease or contracts may require more.

What is a business owners policy?

A business owners policy, or BOP, bundles property and general liability into one policy. For many small shops and offices it costs less than buying the two separately.

Do I need commercial auto if I use my personal truck for work?

Often, yes. Many personal auto policies exclude or limit business use, especially for hauling tools or equipment or driving to job sites. We'll look at how you use the vehicle and tell you what fits.

How fast can I get a certificate of insurance?

Once a policy is in force, we can usually send a certificate the same business day. Just tell us who needs it and what they require.

Does it cost more to use an agent for business insurance?

No. Carriers pay us a commission, so your premium is the same as buying direct. You get someone who compares options and helps you at claim time.
