Anderson County mixes old mill towns, Lake Hartwell shoreline, and a steady flow of retirees who like being close to Clemson and the mountains without paying Greenville prices. For most people here, Medicare decisions start with one question: does the plan cover AnMed? The second question is usually about the Greenville specialist they were referred to.

Mauldin Insurance Group is an independent Medicare agency based in Lexington, SC. We help Anderson, Pendleton, Belton, Williamston, and Lake Hartwell residents compare plans from several carriers by phone or video. There's no charge for our help.

Annual Enrollment for 2027: October 15 to December 7

Plans you choose now start January 1, 2027. Check your Annual Notice of Change for AnMed, any Greenville providers you use, and your prescription costs. If those still line up, keeping your current plan may be the right move.

What shapes Medicare choices in Anderson County

AnMed is the home hospital. AnMed Medical Center and its practices handle much of the county's care. Before anything else, a Medicare Advantage plan needs to include the AnMed doctors you already see.

Greenville is the referral city. For some specialties, Anderson residents go to Prisma Health or Bon Secours in Greenville. A plan can cover AnMed and still leave out the Greenville specialist, so we check both.

Lake Hartwell retirees. The lake draws retirees from across the country. If you moved here with a Medicare Advantage or Part D plan from another state, it probably doesn't work here, and the special enrollment period from your move won't last.

Manufacturing and university retirees. Michelin, other large plants, Clemson University, and local school districts mean many retirees here have employer or PEBA coverage that has to fit with Medicare. See retiring from Michelin and PEBA and Medicare.

Several carriers, one conversation

Captive agents and carrier phone lines only offer their own company's plans. We're independent, so we compare Medicare Advantage, Medicare Supplement, and Part D from several carriers and explain which fits you. You won't pay more for it.

How we help Anderson County residents

→ Confirming your AnMed doctors and any Greenville specialists are in network

→ Replacing an out-of-state plan after moving to the lake

→ Fitting Michelin, Clemson, PEBA, or other retiree coverage together with Medicare

→ Checking for help with premiums or prescription costs

→ Comparing drug costs at your local pharmacy

Four mistakes we see in Anderson County

1. Assuming every plan includes AnMed. It's the hospital most people use, and it still isn't in every network.

2. Not checking the Greenville referral. If you're likely to see a specialist there, make sure the plan covers them.

3. Dropping employer or PEBA retiree coverage too fast. Some benefits can't be restored.

4. Letting the supplement window close. In your first six months on Part B, South Carolina supplement companies must take you no matter your health. Later, they can decline.

How we'll work together

We'll go through your AnMed and Greenville doctors, your prescriptions, your pharmacy, and any retiree or military coverage. Then we'll show you the 2027 plans that fit and what each one is likely to cost. All by phone or video.

Frequently Asked Questions: Medicare in Anderson, SC

How does a Medicare agent in Anderson help? We compare the plans offered in Anderson County from several insurers, check them against your doctors and drugs, and help you enroll. Afterward, we help with claims and review your plan each fall.

Is there a fee? No. Insurance companies pay agents, and your premium is the same with or without one.

When can I change Medicare plans for 2027? October 15 through December 7, 2026. Coverage starts January 1, 2027. Medicare Advantage members also have one change available January 1 through March 31.

Do Anderson Medicare Advantage plans cover AnMed? Many do, but not all, and networks can change. We check your doctors and hospital before recommending anything.

Will my plan cover a specialist in Greenville? Some Anderson County plans include Greenville providers, and some don't. A Medicare Supplement works with any provider in the country that accepts Medicare.

I moved to Lake Hartwell from another state. Do I need a new plan? If you have Medicare Advantage or Part D from your old state, most likely. Your move opens a special enrollment window. A Medicare Supplement usually comes with you.

I'm retiring from Michelin. How do my benefits work with Medicare? It depends on what Michelin offers retirees in your situation. Some benefits work alongside Medicare and some are tied to certain plans. Check before enrolling.

I retired from Clemson or a school district. How does PEBA fit in? PEBA retiree coverage is designed to work with Medicare. Leaving it for another plan may be permanent, so look before you switch.

Is Medicare Advantage or a Medicare Supplement better in Anderson? Medicare Advantage often has a low premium with a network. A supplement costs more each month but lets you see any provider that accepts Medicare. Your doctors and budget decide.

Can I get help paying for Medicare? Medicare Savings Programs can cover your Part B premium, Extra Help lowers drug costs, and people with both Medicare and Healthy Connections Medicaid may qualify for a Dual Special Needs Plan.

I'm still working at 65. Do I need Part B? You may be able to wait if you have coverage through your own or your spouse's current employer, depending on employer size.

Can I switch from Medicare Advantage to a supplement later? You can apply, but after your first six months on Part B, South Carolina supplement companies can decline you based on health. Get approved before you cancel.
