What is Medicare?

Medicare is a national United States health insurance program for people 65 and older. Individuals 65 and younger with certain disabilities or end-stage kidney failure may qualify for the program.  Learn more about the different types of Medicare below!

Medicare Part A:

Medicare Part A (Hospital Insurance) helps cover medically necessary impatient care in a hospital, inpatient Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) after a related 3-day inpatient hospital stay, blood (inpatient), Home Health Care, and Hospice Care.

Medicare Part B:

Medicare Part B (Medical Insurance) helps cover medically necessary doctor's services, outpatient medical and surgical services and supplies, clinical lab tests, durable medical equipment (DME), diabetic testing equipment and supplies, preventive services, medically necessary outpatient physical and occupational therapy, and speech-language pathology services, and outpatient mental health care services.

Medicare Part C:

Medicare Part C (Medicare Advantage) are plans that provide an alternative to Original Medicare (Parts A and B). These plans are offered by private insurance plans that pay instead of Medicare. Many of these plans offer extra benefits that Original Medicare does not, such as dental, vision, hearing, gym memberships, and Part D prescription drug coverage.

Medicare Part D:

Medicare Part D prescription drug coverage for retail prescription drugs is an optional benefit available to everyone with Medicare. Run by private companies that contract with Medicare. You may choose from a Medicare Prescription Drug Plan (PDP) that works with Original Medicare or is usually included in a Medicare Advantage Prescription Drug Plan (MAPD). You must have Medicare Part A and B to join a Medicare Part D plan.

We know retirement is important to you, and we want to make sure you enjoy your retirement and not have to focus on the burden of healthcare.

  • How do I apply or receive my Medicare benefits?

Applying for Medicare can be quite intimidating, but it's easier than you think.   The Social Security Administration handles your Medicare eligibility. You can apply online, by phone, or in person. We help our clients understand when it's time to apply, help them apply, and walk you through the process.  Remember that applying for Medicare is separate from Social Security income benefits and Railroad Retirement Board benefits.

  • Does Original Medicare cover all my health needs?

Original Medicare doesn't cover all of your needs.   Original Medicare doesn't cover prescription coverage, dental, vision, hearing, wellness, and financial protection. If you need additional coverage, you may explore plans provided by private insurance companies.
